Joan Elizabeth Goodman Joan Elizabeth Goodman is the author of four novels for young adults: Songs from Home, The Winter Hare, Hope's Crossing, and Peregrine. She lives with her husband and two children in New York City, one block from the Hudson River. She is the author of Beyond the Sea of Ice, A Long and Uncertain Journey, and Despite All Obstacles.

Ruth Jacobsen Ruth Jacobsen has worked in various jobs ranging from textile designer to motion picture projectionist since emigrating to the United States in 1953. She began creating her collages and constructions in the mid sixties. For the last three decades, she has exhibited them in both solo and group shows. Her work is represented in 30 private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe. Rescued Images is her first book.

Stuart Waldman Stuart Waldman is a writer and editor. He lives in New York City with his wife and son. He has written three Great Explorers Books: We Asked for Nothing, The Last River, and Magellan's World.

Michael Collier Michael Collier has been a freelance writer and photographer since the 1970s. He has a Masters Degree in Structural Geology from Stanford University and pilots his own Cessna 180.

Collier's photographs and articles have appeared in dozens of books, as well as major magazines and newspapers. He has written scripts for two documentary films about the Grand Canyon. He was a special projects writer for the U.S. Geological Survey and has written and photographed fourteen books on geological themes.

Michael Collier has won the National Park Service Director's Award, the National Outdoor Book Award, and the U.S. Geological Survey's Shoemaker Communications Award. In 2005, he was named winner of the American Geological Institute's Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Public Understanding of the Geosciences.

Michael Collier lives in Flagstaff, Arizona with his wife, Rose Houk, who is also a writer. Michael is the author and photographer for Over the Mountains and Over The Rivers. He is also the photographer for Canyon.

Illustrators
Amy Crehore Amy Crehore grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She received a B.F.A. in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. Amy has illustrated many book covers and magazine articles and she has won awards for her paintings. Eugene, Oregon has been her home since 1987. Machu Picchu is her first childrens book.

Amy Crehore Tom McNeely has won awards from the Society of Illustrators, The Art Directors Club of New York, The Art Directors Club of Toronto, and Communication Arts Magazine. The Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communications honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom McNeely lives and works in Toronto. He is the illustrator of A Long and Uncertain Journey, Despite All Obstacles, and Tikal.
Michael Racz Michael Racz, when not fishing, can be found in his New York City studio. He enjoys painting historical subjects, especially Civil War and World War II aviation themes. The Roman Colosseum is his first childrens book.

Fernando Rangel Fernando Rangel was born in Bogota, Colombia and grew up in Queens, N.Y. He attended the High School of Art and Design in New York City, earned a B.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts, and trained at the Chatauqua School of Art. He is the illustrator of The Panama Canal and Beyond The Sea Of Ice.

He lives in Belmont, MA with his two sons and his wife, Judith Love, who is also an illustrator. He is the illustrator of The Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, The Great Wall, and Hoover Dam.

Gregory Manchess Gregory Manchess's paintings have appeared in magazines like Time, Newsweek, Smithsonian and National Geographic. He has illustrated film posters, billboards, children's books, as well as the covers of two Major League Baseball World Series Programs. His work has garnered a gold medal, three silver medals, and a Best Illustration of the Year Award from the Society of Illustrators in New York. Gregory Manchess lives in Beaverton, Oregon. He is the illustrator of The Last River.

Yuan Lee Yuan Lee's paintings have appeared in books, posters, magazines, and advertising campaigns. He was commissioned by the United Nations to design and illustrate a series of special stamps depicting the world's endangered species. Yuan is the illlustrator of The Parthenon.
