The lander, bundled in its air bags, slammed into the red Martian dust at 30 miles per hour. It bounced 16 times - as high as 40 feet - like a giant beach ball. Then it rolled and rolled.
As it tumbled, a faint radio signal drifted in and out. The signal gained strength as Pathfinder came to a halt. The lander had survived its collision with Mars.More Sojourner |
